Made of cocobolo rosewood. 10″ x 7 3/8″ Made of cocobolo, one of the finest woods in the rosewood family, a wood so dense that it sinks in water. All edges are rounded, including the bottom, and sanded and finished to a high standard, so the box feels silky smooth to handle. The interior divisions use traditional (and time consuming) joinery to join them to the body of the jewelry box – a stronger join than modern methods. The sides of the box are cut from the same piece of figured rosewood, so the wood grain pattern is the same on both sides. The slats on the top are arranged before assembly by color and figure, then laid out so that the grain is in harmony, and the tone shifts from light to dark. The action of the tambours is smooth. The overall shape is sleek and fluid. I sign and date each piece.
