This humidor is made of cocobolo, the finest of the rosewoods, a beautifully figured, dark red, extremely dense wood that will sink in water. As you lower the heavy top, a little puff of cedar scented air will come out if it has been closed for a while, because the top fits the bottom so well.
The humidor is built (overbuilt, really) to pass on to the next generation.
We use solid cocobolo rosewood - not a paper thin veneer, like most woodworkers. Yes, veneer is cheaper, but the first time that someone bumps the humidor, there will be an irreparable hole in the veneer. Solid wood is the only durable solution.
We also use traditional joinery, rarely done nowadays because of the amount of skilled labor it requires. All the corners have dovetail joinery, for both strength and decorative effect. In addition they have spline miter joinery, and there is even an invisible joint in the corners of the top. A cove cut along the bottom edge gave the humidors a floating effect. The top panel floats in a tongue and groove frame for greater durability.
The lines are clean and modern, the joinery the best possible. The finish is hand applied shellac and wax, natural, non-toxic, ages well, and easily touched up. The interior of spanish cedar is left unfinished to absorb excess moisture. There are adjustable dividers inside, and a removable tray.
Most people remember President Clinton's famous humidor and cigars - he got it on his trip to Costa Rica in May 1997. Whether or not you like him, you have to admit he has good taste...
